Tim Costello to open SMART 2009

World Vision Australia chief executive Tim Costello has today been announced as the opening keynote speaker for Smart 2009 Conference, Australia’s leading supply chain and logistics conference.

He will present a different perspective on supply chains at Smart 2009, exploring the role of supply chains in driving economies and alleviating global poverty, as well as providing insight into the importance of partnerships between industry and non-governmental organisations.
 
Tim said at the end of most supply chains are communities, individuals and even children who drive many of the engines of global economic growth. “Whether they are workers from coffee farms, textile factories, mines, general industry or even services, many of these people live on the borders of poverty, exploitation and abuse,” he said.
“We believe that supply chain networks who provide the links across the world economy can greatly improve and assist in raising these communities from poverty by modifying and alleviating the much less than acceptable labour practice and abuse that we see so much evidence of at World Vision.”

Tim will join more than 70 local and international speakers at Smart 2009, 10-11 June, Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour.
