Toyota aims for 'quake-proof' global supply chain

A senior procurement executive with Toyota has revealed that the Japanese automotive giant is working to create an "earthquake-proof" supply chain that would be able to rebound from a major disturbance within weeks.

The comments come after the devastating 11 March Japan quake that continues to impact production and distribution for Toyota and other Japanese companies.

"We're making checks now to see what needs to be done to enable a recovery within two weeks when the next one - expected in the (central) Tokai region - hits," Toyota executive vice president Shinichi Sasaki told Reuters. "We're about 80 % done with those checks."
