Australian transport reform to save billions: Gillard

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has forecast tens of billions of dollars in savings in light of three new agreements with the states and territories on heavy vehicle, rail and maritime safety regulation.

All the states and territories signed off on the agreements with the exception of Western Australia which has some concerns regarding the heavy vehicle deal.

"This is a major economic reform," Gillard told reporters in Canberra.
