UK lines up supply chain talent development scheme with large businesses

UK Chancellor George Osborne delivered his ‘Autumn Statement’ recently, in which he outlined a Treasury-backed scheme designed to strengthen the supply chains of large businesses in the country.

"The government is working with large businesses, including Microsoft, Centrica and Diageo, to develop new commitments to support and strengthen their supply chains," Osborne said.

Peter Butler, Diageo's government affairs manager said the scheme will involve apprentice exchanges with placements for Diageo employees at key suppliers.

"We hope that this will lead to the twin benefits of giving our suppliers access to talented Diageo apprentices, as well as providing Diageo with enhanced insights into the functioning of our supply partners," Butler said.
