Australia calls US dairy export subsidy plans 'protectionist'

The Australian Government has described US plans to re-introduce dairy export subsidies as “protectionist” and has suggested it could lead to other countries blocking free trade.

It said dairy farmers around the world were struggling with the global recession and lower milk prices, and claimed the US move “flies in the face” of the commitments made by G20 leaders not to impose protectionist measures.
