US survey indicates purchasing officers leaning towards electronic procurement27 Oct 2010Source: San Francisco Chronicle BidPrime.com, an online subscription service providing government bids and contract intelligence to businesses, announces the release of a report detailing government purchasing officer sentiments about electronic procurement of state and local government bids. The report details purchasing officers' opinions about technology and government, with a focus on their sentiments regarding the publishing and distribution of government bids and RFPs to vendors using emerging technologies of the internet. The survey also includes a background of procurement trends, including statistics on current methods of marketing, as well as new and emerging electronic methods through the internet and online hosted services. An analysis of how modern electronic syndication technologies can be specifically applied to the field will be released in early 2011. "Purchasing officers surveyed were generally eager to find new and improved methods to increase distribution of government bids and RFPs through Web 2.O components," said Stephen Hetzel, BidPrime's Chief Operations Officer. "However, the survey also found doubt and unfamiliarity with these same technologies, and a similar ambivalence about the effectiveness of third party and private company tools to increase distribution of bids, increase competition, and cut costs."
