CIPSA WA members benefit from MP's infrastucutre project experience

28 Jul 2009

Drawing on her experience of successfully delivering Perth’s $1.6 billion Metro Rail Project and extensive upgrades to Western Australian ports, the Hon Alannah MacTiernan spoke to CIPS Australia WA members at a breakfast event on Wednesday 15 July.

Currently the Shadow Minister for Regional Development, Strategic Infrastructure, and Climate Change in the WA Parliament, Ms MacTiernan was the WA Government Minister for Planning and Infrastructure for nearly eight years.

Referring to key road development projects, airports, boating facilities and freight rail projects, Ms MacTiernan provided a valuable insight into the budgeting and approval processes that underpin Ministerial decisions regarding major infrastructure. She also shared her views on alliance contracting and a new perspective on the development of capital works, emphasising the importance of selecting the right contract structure.

Using a case study, Ms MacTiernan demonstrated that alliance contracting can assist in attracting competitive forces to an isolated market and in integrating supplier relationships at the same time, contributing to a greater value outcome for the project.
