WA Government DTF to split into separate Treasury and Finance Departments

Western Australian Premier Colin Barnett has announced plans to split the WA Treasury department and create a new Finance department.

Mr Barnett has outlined his plans in the Premier's address in Parliament, stating that the change will incur only a minor cost.

Mr Barnett explained the reasons for the move.

"The Treasury and Finance structure as it is simply too big," he said.

"I want the Treasurer and Treasury to concentrate on the budget itself on financial management in individual departments, on Commonwealth-State relations and on some of the other issues the state faces," he said.

As yet, it remains to be seen how this will affect the WA DTF procurement organisation.
