Procurement processes in WA Government open to fraud: Auditor

Western Australian government agencies could be open to fraud and misconduct in the spending of billions of dollars on goods and services each year, the auditor general has found.

An audit by the WA Auditor General Colin Murphy revealed some government agencies had poor record-keeping and failed to report all contracts over $20,000 or conflicts of interest.

Murphy said that with about $7 billion of taxpayers' money spent on the buying of goods and services in the 2009-10 financial year, the government needed to demonstrate it was getting value for money.
