Woolworths to increase supply chain efficiency and slash costs

Australian supermarket giant Woolworths will introduce e-business standards organisation GS1, in a move that is designed to increase its supply chain efficiency and slash costs.

With electronic messaging now implemented between the supermarket chain and its suppliers via GS1net, product information like weight, dimension and pricing can be transferred more simply and accurately than ever before.

The Global Data Synchronisation Network (GDSN), as it's formally called, is a global standard for data messaging. It is expected to reduce cost for suppliers who up until now had to utilise paper forms unique to Woolworths.
